Nick’s Liquors was voted the region’s best liquor store by The Times and Shore readers.

“It’s always an honor,” says owner Nick Kikalos. “The area has always been supportive. We just try to serve the customer well and give them the right prices.”

The business got its start as a single location in Hammond in 1971 that was opened by Kikalos’ parents. It has since grown into a chain of five stores in Northwest Indiana, with plans for a sixth location in Merrillville next year on the drawing board.

Kikalos points to great customer service, low prices and variety—“We carry a lot of things that other liquor stores don’t normally,” he notes—as the reasons patrons keep coming back.
