Tabor Hill, at the highest point in Buchanan, Mich., is the only winery-and-restaurant in the state. Its two dining rooms, with vaulted ceilings and fieldstone fireplaces, impart a lodge feel with contemporary lighting. Panoramic views allow guests to enjoy being right amongst the vineyards as they dine. Cuisine is California contemporary, with lots of fresh seafood. Chef JohnPaul VerHage offers tasty bites for friends to share in addition to such entrees as kurbota pork chops and pheasant. Tabor Hill is unusual in offering a full bar.
Wine tastings reflect a wide variety, says general manager Paul Landeck, with a command of the reds as well as offerings of Pinot Gris, gewürztraminer and more.
Tabor Hill’s 80 acres and long-term contracts with local farmers are dedicated to quality. “We don’t need to be the biggest,” says Landeck
Winemaker Mike Merchant has been with Tabor Hill for 30 of its 46 years, and “we think top quality first.”
