The Portage Township YMCA provides child care for children of all ages, beginning at age two, and they have individualized programs for each age group. Their Child Care and Development Center provides families with access to quality, affordable curriculum-based child care and development. Children are actively engaged in age appropriate care that builds developmental assets, increases cognitive skills, provides social stimulation and encourages individual growth and values. The K-Care and Y-Care programs at the Portage Township YMCA are offered to elementary to middle school students who are enrolled in one of the six Portage Township elementary schools that are located in Portage. The before and after school child care programs help hundreds of working parents by educating and entertaining children from 6:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at an affordable price for families, with financial aid available.
Jennifer Dennison, Child Care and Development Center director, says, “We are a state licensed child care facility, and our goal is for children in the center to be cared for in a nurturing, educational environment that fosters physical, mental, emotional and social development. Our academics set us apart. We focus on preparing children to be successful when they get to school.”
