Under the leadership of Chancellor Howard Cohen, Purdue University Calumet in Hammond is the academic home this year of more than 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students. An academically comprehensive regional university, PUC is part of the renowned Purdue University system.
In addition to the Hammond campus, Purdue also has an Academic Learning Center in Merrillville.
Accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, PUC offers more than 100 academic programs that lead to associate, baccalaureate and master’s degrees and professional certificates. Since 1946, Purdue Calumet has awarded more than 38,000 degrees.
Spread out amid 194 acres of land, the campus includes classroom and office buildings and the Student Union and Library Building.
The University Village houses students who choose to live on campus. In response to high demand for on-campus housing, PUC broke ground on Phase II of The University Village on April 22, 2008. The $21.1 million construction will provide 99 furnished apartment units for 369 students.
Also on campus, The Challenger Learning Center brings NASA and space travel to life for students from area schools. The Purdue Fitness Center offers state-of-the-art equipment. And the university is also home to a child care center and a conference center.
