Rising to the Challenge
Still Changing Lives
No one would have thought when Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana first opened it doors

in Indiana in 1963 that it would evolve into the state's largest public post-secondary institution of

higher education with more than 120,000 students enrolled annually. It is also one of the

nation's largest singly-accredited statewide community college systems. The College has 23

campuses within 14 regions throughout Indiana.

And in northwest Indiana, Ivy Tech is the second largest institution of higher education with

9500 students at the Gary, Valparaiso, Michigan City and East Chicago campuses.

We:

  • offer over 150 affordable degree programs and training that are aligned with the needs

    of the community

  • provide high-quality and rigorous general education that transfers to other colleges and

    universities in Indiana

  • serve as the stateís engine of workforce development
  • are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central

    Association

We have been committed to helping students change their lives through quality education from

the beginning. Many students that graduated last year went directly into the workforce or

transferred to a four-year institution to continue their education.

Workforce and Economic Development

With nearly half of US workers expected to retire within the next decade, industries across

northwest Indiana are turning to our department of Workforce and Economic Development to

help train future employees. The department serves over 1,000 students per year.

We are working with both US Steel and ArcelorMittal to craft training programs that

prepare students to earn a quality degree in the industrial manufacturing areas.

We received $1 million for the campuses in Evansville, Gary and Indianapolis to develop

a training program for the energy industry. The Gary campus will work primarily with

Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) to focus on training meter readers,

gas and power plant workers and electric linemen.

Through a partnership with BP, students will learn the control, monitoring and

troubleshooting of equipment used in the production of gasoline, airplane fuel, gas,

plastic soft drink bottles, glass jars and bottles, pharmaceuticals, and electricity.

We offer premier career and technical programs preparing students for high-skill, highdemand,

high-paying jobs.
