Madeline Plesac to compete in Miss Teen USA pageant in July
Madeline Plesac’s first venture into the world of pageants proved successful as the Chesterton High School senior was crowned Miss Indiana Teen USA 2010 on Sunday.
Plesac beat out 25 other girls from around the state at a three-day competition at the Renaissance Hotel in Carmel.
Plesac, 17, is the daughter of Dan and Leslie Plesac, of Valparaiso.
Plesac said she was encouraged to enter the pageant by Susan Brychell, her mother’s friend and co-worker at Purdue North Central and a former Miss Indiana USA.
“She said I had what it takes, and I took her advice,” Plesac said.
The contestants were judged on their personal interviews and in swim suit and evening gown competitions.
“I thought I would be nervous, but I was really calm,” Plesac said.
Perhaps it was her poise, and perhaps it was a sign of good luck she received just before the competition took place.
The pageant assigned her No. 19—the same number her father—former major league pitcher Dan Plesac—wore during much of his career. Dan Plesac is now an analyst with MLB Network.
“It was a good experience, but different than I thought it would be,” she said on Monday. “It’s still sinking in.”
Besides the title, prizes and a growing list of upcoming appearances, Plesac won the privilege to compete in the Miss Teen USA pageant in July in the Bahamas.
She is a member of the CHS orchestra, the National Honor Society and was a former member of the cheerleading squad. She plans to pursue a career in health care. Plesac enjoys shopping, community service activities, traveling, and creating unique greeting cards and gifts.
