I want to be neighbors.

[And that is one thing I do love about living in the city (although it isn't a big one) - our neighborhood feels like a neighborhood. And while there are other neighborhoods in town in which I'd rather live (the vibe, the shops, etc) I absolutely adore our neighbors.]

It's too funny that I just wrote my post today about my neighborhood and titled it similarly. Like you, I'm trying to make an effort to know my neighbors better. I want Linus to be able to ride around the block, up and down the streets, and know others are watching out for him. I need to make more contact and I will.

That's a great idea for so many reasons. It's shocking to me that some parents would let their kids hang out with yours without ever knowing you.. how do they know they can trust you?

We actually have fabulous neighbors but part of that has been our doing. We've made a point to get to know them and often host block-only events like block party bbqs in the middle of the street (get permission from the city first!) and dessert socials. And if we didn't host them, no one would, but it's worth it. We have neighbors we can trust and rely on if we lose a house key or need some sugar.

Exchanging phone numbers is SUCH a good idea. Or email too. I know our next door neighbors (and would like to know them more!) but I never have a way to contact them besides either walking up and knocking on their door or randomly running into them outside. I think the Mom next door and I could be friends, why not use technology (I am much more likely to send an email to say hi - I am a bit shy at first) to help bridge that first awkwardness. About three weeks ago I was the one on the stretcher and my neighbor came over right after I left and asked if there was anything she could do to help. That's a person I want to know better. :)
