It has been weeks maybe MONTHS since everyone in our house was healthy. It’s one cold after flu after pink eye after bronchitis after the other. It seems ALL we’ve been eating is soup. Which is ok with me because I LOVE SOUP.
Like, I think about it and I think, I love soup! Could it be the perfect food?
When I’m up for it, I love to make a huge pot of copycat Olive Garden minestrone. I make this all the time. And mine is better than Olive Garden’s. But I haven’t really felt like chopping up all those veggies and stuff lately so we’ve been eating mostly canned.
My current favorite (and by favorite I mean I am kind of addicted): Amy’s Fire Roasted Southwestern Vegetable soup. It feels SO good on my throat. And is really so flavorful for a canned soup.
Last night I went out with some friends to Pikk’s Tavern, downtown Valpo and I couldn’t wait to find out what their soup of the day was.
I was seriously bummed when all they had was broccoli cheddar, gumbo, or seafood chowder. But I just couldn’t NOT get soup, so I figured I’d try the broccoli cheddar (their soup of the day.) It was WAY different than I expected. It was amazing. Pureed and spicy. And oh my gosh I need some right now.
So, back to the cans, I am worried I’m going to get burned out on my Amy’s Fire Roasted soup. Please let me know what your favorites are. I need to update my cupboards!
Do you like soup? What is your favorite you can buy at the store? Do you have a favorite recipe?
PLEASE SHARE. I eat soup for breakfast. Really.

Shane made a potato leek soup for dinner last night that was very good, but my favorite of his is french onion! I can get you the recipe for either, but really, I should just get him to make you some.

I seriously laughed out loud when I saw your link to Twitter about this post. Breakfast soup. Cracks me up! Like I said, I love the lentil one from Amy’s. And I just made Barefoot Contessa’s Lentil Vegetable Soup-it is AH-MAZING.

MMmmm… soup. I’m a soup lover as well, and my girls are too (well, my 4 and 6yr olds. My 1yr old has yet to experience the loveliness). I’m so glad they are because I grew up on soup, from scratch, all winter long.
Our current fav is potato soup. I hate to say this, but I LOVE my potato soup. Isn’t that an awful thing to say? It’s a combo of redskin potato, cream and rivol (family thing, but they’re tiny little dumplings in the soup). Serious heaven in a bowl.
Next fav is chili, cinninnati style. Umm… I just did a tomato bisque that was good, from canned garden tomatoes. Yum! I found the recipe for black bean soup from good housekeeping and then made the recipe mine…. um, mine was waaaaay better.
Needless to say, we’re a soup family as well.

I love soup, too. I wonder if it’s a Northern thing? When we lived in San Diego, I didn’t crave soup like I do now.
My current favorite is Lasagna Soup:

That link also has a link to a Tortilla Soup I really want to try. It’s from a friend who grew up in New Mexico, so she ought to know good Tortilla Soup.

I LOOOOVE soup. Planning on making beef stew AND potato soup this week, before being overwhelmed with Thanksgiving goodness. My two favorites, though, are Italian Turkey Soup and Broccoli Cheese (I don’t usually like what they have in restaurants for broccoli cheese, but I LOVE this).

I love soup too! But usually only get a hankering for it in the fall and winter.
Anyway, my FAVOURITE these days is the most delicious butternut squash soup you’ve EVER had. It’s got some kick to it and it’s so smooth (thanks to the delicious white wine you add in). check it out: http://greenjellybellies.blogspot.com/2008/11/butternut-squash-soup-recipe.html
Also I make I have an incredible recipe for a Spicy African Yam soup (it’s got peanut butter and pineapples in it…if that doesn’t make you curious, I don’t know what will!).

Soup is good food! I like Campbell’s Select Southwestern Chicken. Check out http://www.foodiemama.com. I’ve got a pumpkin bisque and a chicken tortilla soup on there that will knock your socks off and my friend Ilina has her buttnernut squash soup on there. SO GOOD!
