Revisiting the “list”

January 22nd, 2010 - By Stephanie Precourt

Dare I even bring up my very well-intentioned list?

I know it was a fall thing but really I meant it to carry over until now because there’s NOTHING to do right about now, and I need the nudge out of the house each wintery week.

The Field Museum, on a free day and apparently there are lots of them(In Gray’s words: See Rexy at Night At The Museum)
The Art Institute/Millennium Park Day
Lincoln Park Zoo
Shedd Aquarium, on a free day
Museum of Science & Industry (NOT on a free day, we have a family pass)
Attend an age appropriate storytime at local bookstore
Go for a hike at Deep River
Get soy icecream from Pat’s Parlor, just because.
County Line Orchard

Bellaboo’s Play and Discovery Center

Bailly HomesteadandChelburg Farm
Feed the ducks/geese at Lake George
Eat cupcakes at Designer Desserts
Pegggy Notebaert Nature Museum
Visit the Curious Kids’ Museum

What have we done? What have I crossed off?

We DID make it to the Shedd on New Year’s Eve. I had the thought that it would probably be empty that day, because everyone is getting ready for parties and stuff, right? But, um, I think it was ACTUALLY probably the most crowded day of the year. Go figure! (And note to anyone else- museums on a holiday= CROWDED.) (PS we had fun- the Fantasea show was awesome.)

The whole fam, 12-31-09

We’ve had plenty of cupcake dates, so I’ve crossed that off but don’t even think that means we won’t be doing it again. Also, we have family passes that expire next month to the Museum of Science & Industry so we’ll be doing that quite soonish. Oh, and we did go to Bellaboo’s and liked it ALOT. I plan to go there again (it’s definitely more geared to the younger ones like Gray & Ivy’s ages (4 & 16 months.)

I’ve been thinking about even adding a trip to the beach on there- in the winter. I miss Lake Michigan. (Let’s be honest, it would probably just be a drive out there, while the kids nap in the car and I get a coffee from Starbucks’ drive thru, but it’s a goal.)

On A Roll

September 29th, 2009 - By Stephanie Precourt

So, we were on a roll it seems- we hit the Field Museum and even Lincoln Park Zoo last week and the weather was awesome. But, now the weather has turned and I am fighting a cold.

With the cooler weather, the zoo is definitely a great place to go. Not only is it not very crowded, but the animals also tend to hang outside more. We always park a little further down from the main entrance and go in through the “school” entrance near the new ape exhibit. The route we’ll usually take is go through the Regenstein Center for African Apes and then make our way over to the other end of the zoo for the Regenstein African Journey which brings you out right by the polar bears (which were off exhibit last week), then back down to the penguins, sea lions, play at the Pritzker Family Children’s zoo and then head to lunch (we love the food court at Park Place Cafe- seriously the best panini).

After a break we’ll either to the Farm if we have time or back to the apes again on our way to the car.

I had wanted to head to the Shedd yesterday or today for the free admission but I’d rather be napping this cold off. So, we’ll try for next week maybe for Gray’s birthday on the 7th. I don’t think it’s a free day, though, so I better come up with something a little cheaper.

My friend Sarah is playing music on Oct 3 & 4 at the County Line Orchard so I am hoping for a nice day to maybe go out and see her and get cinnamon donuts. Not sure if I will even take the kids for that one! Ah, I probably will.

Unlisted

August 29th, 2009 - By Stephanie Precourt

Well, I’ve not done even one thing on the Bucket List. School started last week and it seems like we’ve had our calendar filled from the top of the day to the bottom. I’m seriously hoping we can go to see Rexy on Thursday (a free day). It was so chilly and fall-like today that we almost ended up at the orchard. But, instead I baked cookies and rearranged the furniture. That should have totally been on the list. Then I’d have something to cross out already.

Ok. No pressure. I shoulda had that on the list, too. Breathe, take it easy, and enjoy the unplanned things, too. Maybe I’ll add that in…

The Bucket List: Fall 2009

August 20th, 2009 - By Stephanie Precourt

I’ve decided to create a bucket list here of all the things I plan to do with Gray while his big brothers are in school. I’ll have Ivy, too, of course, but my main goal is to do fun activities for Gray (age almost 4) and to get me us out of the house every once in a while. Also, this isn’t to replace park days & playdates, we’ll still do that as often as we can.

I’ll be adding to this list (I hope) as well as crossing things off as we go. And maybe making notes if we’ll be repeating said activities, etc.

Your suggestions in the comments are greatly appreciated!
