Welp, the first week of school comes to an end and I survived! Grayson did well in all day kindergarten, and Noah & Carter are now in 4th and 5th grade. I have a good feeling about the school year. It’s been fun figuring out a new routine with Ivy, now that there is just one kid in the house all day.
We’ve been taking walks to downtown Valpo, getting iced drinks at Blackbird Cafe and stopping by the splash pad. On our way home today we stopped in the library and got the infos on upcoming toddler classes. I think I might totally sign Ivy up. I have always dreamed of taking my kids to those fun story hours at the library but it just never happened. But this time around, with only one at home now, I find it do-able and quite appealing. Maybe we’ll even walk to every class!
I’ve heard that these classes are quite popular and it was recommended that you sign up right away when registration opens. Check out the Porter County Public Library website and Lake County Public Library website for dates & times!

I took the elevator up to the children’s books section at the library. I noticed the Friends of the Library was open- a huge room filled with organized categories of books for sale at awesome prices- like from 25 cents to two dollars each.
I found myself cross-legged on the floor between the stacks, skimming titles that I could read at bedtime to the boys, books at Noah and Carter’s reading level, young adult fiction that took me wayyyy back.
Time stood still.
My arms were full, overflowing!
I walked out with a huge paper shopping bag with handles FULL of books- for only $7.
I plan to go back and splurge on several antique hardbacks to fill our downstairs book shelf.
It’s been four weeks today that we canceled our cable and haven’t watched TV! A renewed hunger for books has fallen upon our house. I love it.
