This ain’t right.

It’s that time of year again! That exciting time here in Northwest Indiana where all I do is curse the cold and the snow and dream about summer or at least visiting a tropical island somewhere for a very, very long time.

This winter, in particular, does seem a little harsh, don’t you think? Let’s recap, shall we?

-Two months ago: really cold.
-One month ago: really, really cold with 8 inches of snow.
-Seven days ago: 58 degrees, rain
-Six days ago: ten below, six inches of snow
-Three days ago: 50 degrees, thunderstorm with hail
-Six hours later: freakin’ cold, 50 mph winds, ice, snow. I hate this crap.
-Yesterday: Feels like ten below, overnight, Mother Nature decides to drop Lake Effect snow on the northern part of my county, which is exactly where I live, where we received a surprise four inches, with at least four more to come. SURPRISE! Thanks, Mother Nature, I owe you one! Should I shovel later or do you want me to do it now so you can snow on it later today like the last time? (by the way, when I say “should I shovel” I mean “should my husband shovel.”)

Why do I live here, again? Oh yeah, the beautiful beaches and the proximity to Redamak’s, (which is closed until SPRING.) Right, I keep forgetting.

You know winter has extended it’s very small welcome when my kids wake up and don’t even notice the soft, white billowy junk sitting on the deck, it’s just another day, another dollar. It’s a little different from their reaction back in December. OVER TWO MONTHS AGO.

So, now we have spring to look forward to which is over a month away. And when spring comes, it’s still winter until May. Until then, I’ll continue to check The Weather Channel’s website, where I can see where in this beautiful country is warmer than us and I’ll dream of weekend getaways where people don’t have to wait a few days for it to get warmer just to check the mail.

Not that I do that or anything. ahem.

In a few weeks we are visiting Louisville, Kentucky for the weekend and by golly, it’s only four hours south, but it could be WARM! AND SUNNY! I may pack my bathing suit.

I just visited The Weather Channel’s website to see how warm it’s going to be in southern Florida today, and this was the headline that greeted me.

Winter not letting go: Ice, sleet, snow, and cold expected to stick around for many through the end of the week into the weekend.

Fan-freakin’-tastic. Not that I expected anything else, but still.

Why do I live here again?

Oh yeah, the beaches. At least after March 1st, I can sink my teeth into a Redamak’s cheeseburger, anyone care to join me?

(by the way, right now in Miami it’s 74 degrees. Just in case you were wondering.)

“where people don’t have to wait a few days for it to get warmer just to check the mail.”

And here I thought I was the only person who did that! Somedays not even the promise of a new NetFlicks movie will get me down that driveway.

I go even further on the Weather Channel. I drill down to the daily average highs for the area in the upcoming months and reason with myself that 40 degrees? Relatively warm when you consider the past months! Whoooooopeeeeeeeeee! Come onnnnn, 40s!

I’m diggin’ those tunes on the Redamak’s location page!

I’m am sooo sooo ready for a little warmth, and I agree, right about now 40 degrees sounds downright balmy!

Ah yes, the area of harsh cold, winds that makes your skin sting and lack of sun. Lovely isn’t?

I’m sneaking to Kentucky with you too.

and what the heck his Redamak’s? I must go and try one with you!

Oh, a burger in New Buff sounds heavenly right now. I’ve been shivering for 3 days.
I would be thrilled if it were forty degrees! I’d even go and get my mail.

I hear ya, girlfriend. I despise this time of year in PA.

  • Lynette Says:

I hear you on the snow. Enough already. Even my oldest son who loves his share of winter looked outside today, saw the snow, and replied, “Stupid groundhog.”

  • Lora Says:

I so-o-o agree with you! We give up, Mother Nature! I have a feeling the kids will not be hunting Easter Eggs inside again this year.

  • Lora Says:

Oops - I mean they WILL be inside (or NOT outside!)

  • Michelle Says:

Mmm…Redamak’s on the patio in the warm sunshine sounds like a little slice of heaven right about now! (as I hang up my long down parka and stomp off my snow boots)

  • SarahC Says:

What in the heck is Redamak’s? I cannot imagine ANYTHING being worth this weather!

  • Marlen Says:

I want some of your snow! We got some today, but I do not think it is even enough for a delay for my kiddos and I really need a sleep in day!

MMM haven’t thought about redemaks burgers for a while. We used to get them every year when we took the kids to the church camp at Sawyer.

    thanks for the memory

Considering where I grew up I had pool parties at every birthday (it’s in March), and I’m a newbie to these parts, I’d say I’m sufficiently freaking out. How do you people live like this your entire lives? I totally took for granted being able to go wherever I wanted, whenever I wanted to. Oh and also the proximity to Mexico. That was cool.

Apparently I haven’t lived, because I’ve never been to Redamak’s????

Ha- we love New Buffalo… would be a GREAT next blogger meetup place, no? Are you snowed in there now?
