Breaking The Shell

Isabella is painfully shy. Whenever she’s around people she doesn’t know very well, she clings to me, holds her head down and doesn’t talk. It’s sometimes frustrating to have a shy kid, because most people don’t get to see just how outgoing and imaginative Isabella really is. Most people don’t know that when she’s comfortable in her surroundings, she totally opens up and becomes this incredible performer.

So I’ve decided to share some of Isabella’s best personality moments with the rest of the world. (Mainly so people can stop saying things like, “She’s so SHY… Does she ever TALK?” These statements make me insecure, people—like I’m mothering the next Unabomber or something.)

This is Isabella’s favorite Silly Face. I’ve tried telling her that there are many other Silly Faces in the world and she should give them a chance, but she chooses to do this one because she’s a pro at it… also because her tongue is the length of Florida. (By the way, that’s my Uncle Vince in the background. He lives in New Jersey and makes great wine. Hey Uncle Vinny, bring me a glass of cab, will ya? Thanks much.)

I love her smile in this photo. She looks so animated. But there’s something clever going on here. Notice that the fan in the background is not actually moving. It’s not even on. But Isabella acted like it was on and acted like it was blowing her hair up. Such an actress, that one.

This is just a typical snapshot, I realize, of a kid eating a s’more. No big deal. (Although, I don’t know which I want to eat first: the s’more or Isabella’s precious little button nose.) However, the shot above is simply a prelude to this…

Ha ha ha. Ha ha! Hahahahahahahahaha. Part chewing, part laughing… everything about this photo is just hilarious. Every time I look at it I laugh out loud—at Isabella’s expense, I know. This is definitely going in the archives and will be displayed at her 16th birthday party, graduation and wedding.

Ha ha ha ha ha.

Okay, I’m done now.

If this doesn’t say personality, I don’t know what does. Would Ted Kaczynski dance around in a hula skirt? I think not. At least I hope not.

And finally…

You can’t go wrong with the ol’ fake mustache/glasses bit. For two straight days, Isabella walked around the house wearing this getup. And she actually took this photo of herself. See? The girl recognizes not only comedy but also the need to document it. Not an easy feat for a five-year-old, my friends.

So now you see that Isabella is in fact a bundle of charm and personality. So the next time you see her and she buries her head into my hip? Just remember the s’more…

Tee hee.

Yep, I totally thought she was quite the shy one until “Future hubby” Hayden was around! I was so excited to finally see the true Bella. And I loved the comment about you eating her nose - you sounded like me for a second. “I’m going to EAT YOU!!!” BTW, come get your jewelry whenever, you don’t need an invitation! Hugs!

I’m still laughing. I especially love the self-snapped nose/glasses shot. She has an incredible imagination and so smart! I truly wish everyone could see her beautiful personality like we get to. I think she is adorable when she is shy too. I also know that she is going to grow out of the shyness and blossom into a confident, charming young lady…. because you did the very same thing.
Thanks for sharing the fabulous pics and comments!!
