Business women put on fashion show
American Business Women's Association will present a Mother's Day Fashion Show at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Villa Cesare, 900 Eagle Ridge Drive. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Silent auction, cash raffle, vendors and door prizes will be featured. Cost is $25.

Dance fans gather for afternoon of fun
Indiana Lakeshore Dancers will host an afternoon of dancing from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Second Street Dance Studio, 121 E. Joliet St. Cost is $3 for students with ID, $6 for members and $9 for guests. Doors open at 1:30 p.m., rumba lesson will be at 2 p.m. and general dancing will be from 3 to 5 p.m. DJ Tony Nevers will provide swing, Latin and ballroom music.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at K of C hall
Cinco de Mayo celebration will be from 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Knights of Columbus Hall, 1104 Knights of Columbus Drive. Dimension Escropio and Mariachi Juvenil will provide music. Cocktails will be served from 6 to 7 p.m., dinner from 7 to 8 p.m. and dance and show will be from 8 p.m. to midnight. Cost is $35. Event is sponsored by Xel-Ha School of Dance.

Flagpole dedication, celebrate mark Arbor Day
Arbor Day Celebration will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Veterans Park, 4525 Indianapolis Blvd. Event will honor East Chicago as a Tree City USA. A flagpole dedication in honor of the late Jacqueline Jones will be at 4 p.m. at Kennedy Gardens. Jones, a longtime resident, was an environmental steward for the park, helping clean it up and revitalize it.

Bird lovers can flock to migration hike
Bird migration hike will be at 8 a.m. Saturday at Gibson Woods Nature Preserve, 6201 Parrish Ave. A Lake County Parks naturalist will lead the hike, allowing participants will look for Baltimore Orioles, Scarlet Tanagers and other birds. Registration is required.

Celebrate Arbor Day at community center
The city will celebrate Arbor Day at noon Friday at Jean Shepherd Community Center, 3031 Mahoney Drive. Hammond is a certified tree city and will be planting trees in parks throughout the city. A short tree-planting ceremony will take place in Dowling Park followed by a tree seedling giveaway (flowering dogwood) to the first 300 Hammond residents who attend.

Homemade lotion program will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gibson Woods, 6201 Parrish Ave. Participants will create their own personalized lotion and jar. Event is part of the Family Nature Crafts program.
