The Times all-time Top 10

A look at the Region's best girls basketball players

1. LaTaunya Pollard, E.C. Roosevelt, 1979

The 1979 Miss Basketball led ECR to the Final Four three times, winning state titles in '77 and '79. Had an All-American career at Long Beach State, was a 1980 Olympian and named one of Indiana's Top 50 all-time players.

2. Kelly Komara, Lake Central, 1998

Won Miss Basketball in 1998 and led the Indians to two state finals, including 1998's state runner-up finish in Class 4A. Helped lead Purdue to the 1999 NCAA national championship and a runner-up finish in '01.

3. Anne Kvachkoff, Crown Point, 1985

In four years on varsity, Kvachkoff played in three state finals games, winning back-to-back state title in '84 and '85. The Indiana All-Star then helped turn Purdue's program around.

4. Angela Hamblin, Lew Wallace, 1993

A prep standout who had the misfortune of playing in the midst of West Side's and Lake Central's greatest teams. Was an all-Big Ten player at Iowa and was a third-round draft pick for the WNBA's Washington Mystics.

5. Kristina Divjak, Lake Central, 1995

The prolific scorer led the Indians to the 1994 state championship and the '95 Final Four appearance before a remarkable career at Northwestern, where she led the Big Ten in scoring from beyond the arc.

6. Monica Maxwell, E.C. Central, 1995

Led the Cardinals to the No. 1 ranking in the U.S. and was part of two classic Region games against Lake Central, which brought 14,000 fans into the house. Led Louisiana State to NCAA Final Four and played for the Indiana Fever.

7. Bridget Pettis, E.C. Central, 1989

As good as she was in high school, Pettis played her best ball later, when there was some money to be made. After playing for Florida, Pettis had a seven-year WNBA career with Phoenix and Indiana.

8. Jenny DeMuth, Highland, 2001

Single-handedly made the Trojans into a state player, advancing to the semistate three consecutive years. Was runner-up in the Miss Basketball voting. Is currently recovering from a torn ACL at Indiana.

9. Danielle McCulley, West Side, 1993

Led Rod Fisher's program within an eyelash of the Final Four. The 6-3 forward started at Purdue, but left for Western Kentucky, where she was twice an all-Sun Belt selection. Was No. 1 pick of the ABL, played five years in WNBA.

10. Jeanette Gray, Valparaiso, 1999

The Vikings' all-time career leading scorer was a member of Valpo's state runner-up team as a freshman. Played at Valparaiso University, where she led Crusaders to a WNIT and NCAA tournament berths.
