Teen's driving stunt injures sister

CENTER TOWNSHIP | Porter County police are seeking a criminal recklessness charge against a teen whose driving stunt led to a crash that injured his sister.

Police said Patrick McGinley, 18, of 1754 Morningside Drive, crashed at Cityview Drive and Crestview Drive at 5 p.m. Monday. Police said he was westbound when he pulled the emergency brake to get the rear end to swing around, but crashed into a utility pole and tree. Police said his 14-year-old sister, Delaney McGinley, suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Police said McGinley stated he'd pulled the emergency brake eight times in the past.

Cops: Drunk man tried to enter stranger's home

HEBRON | Hebron police said they arrested a 27-year-old Hebron man after he got drunk and attempted to enter a home that was not his home.

Arrested at a home on north Main Street was Michael Ridgeway. Police said he was only able to get his arm in the doorway, at which time the female resident pushed his arm out and locked the door. Police were called and they said Ridgeway was found to be intoxicated.

Golf cart stolen, may have been used in theft

CENTER TOWNSHIP | Porter County police said someone stole Charles Ransom's golf cart from his pole barn on Ransom Road on Sunday night or Monday morning, drove it through multiple yards and then abandoned it in the area of 487 N. County Road 150 West.

Police said the golf cart, which was damaged, may have been driven to and from the scene of a theft from vehicle incident at the David Brick residence on Kinsale Court.

Knifed pulled during bar fight

SOUTH HAVEN | Porter County police are seeking a battery charge against a man accused of battering his brother-in-law and pulling a knife during a disturbance at 3 a.m. Tuesday at Pepe's, 809 McCool Road.

The suspect is Buster Thrasher, 25, of Michigan City.

Police said the man who was battered told police he and Thrasher do not get along, and the man stated his sister and Thrasher are divorcing. The man told police he saw Thrasher at Pepe's and was jumped by him and a few other males.

Police said Thrasher, in addition to facing battery charges, is wanted on warrants.

Police say collect call scam tried on woman

PORTAGE | A Portage woman is alerting the public that someone tried a collect call scam on her.

Peggy Gunter said she received collect calls on her answering machine Monday and learned she would be responsible for the charges. She was able to get the charges removed, but was told the calls were probably placed in an attempt to get her to call back the caller. She was told that if she would have called back, the caller might have been able to tap into her phone line to make expensive calls.

The female who called Gunter stated she was at a motel and needed help.

Vandalism. County Road 250 West resident John Johnson reported someone put sugar into his gas tank, causing engine trouble.

Theft. Crown Point resident Gus Sitaris reported $170 worth of items stolen from his vehicle at Countryside Park in Portage.

Burglary. Katrina Cobb, of 6th Street, reported $615 worth of medicine, DVDs and compact discs from her home.

Vandalism. Swanson Road resident Michele Farmer reported damage to home windows.

Burglary. Police said someone burglarized the LaHonda Drive home of Carol Filar, taking $200 cash.

Theft. County Road 600 West resident Tuaila Holman reported prescription pills and a jacket stolen from her home.

Vandalism. Satoski Brothers, of Union Mills, reported $3,000 damage to heavy equipment at 550 N. Ind. 149.

Theft. Hemlock Drive resident Thomas Rice reported a $400 digital camera and a $40 briefcase stolen from his car.

Theft. Bedford Court resident Kimberly Burns reported $1,500 worth of compact discs stolen from her vehicle.
