School officer makes 24th arrest
PORTAGE | Portage police Cpl. Troy Williams, school resource officer in Portage schools, made his 24th arrest of the school year on Monday.
Williams arrested Brandon Bennett, 19, of Portage, on a trespassing charge after Bennett entered the school without checking in, had lunch with his 16-year-old girlfriend and confronted a 17-year-old male student who reportedly made disparaging comments about the girlfriend.
Williams made 53 arrests last school year after being named school resource officer on Jan. 1.
Vehicle stolen, used in vandalism
CENTER TOWNSHIP | Police said someone stole Robbie Lane resident Walter Bentley's sport utility vehicle Sunday night or Monday morning and drove it through landscaping at Pepper Creek subdivision in the area of County Road 400 North and Froberg Road.
The vehicle sustained extensive damage and more than $1,600 worth of tools and items were stolen from it. Police said the damage to the landscaping is $500.
Someone cuts into man's fun
CENTER TOWNSHIP | A Valparaiso-area man told police someone entered his back yard Sunday night or Monday morning and punctured his pool wall and liner in several spots, causing all the water to drain into the yard. In addition, someone cut the trampoline all around the put it in a nearby creek.
The victim, Eugene Wisinewski, of the 500 block of north Ind. 149, estimated the damage at $2,800. In addition, someone entered his shed, pushed down his fence and turned over his picnic table and landscaping items. Police said a neighbor's shed also was entered.
Sex offender moves to Valparaiso
VALPARAISO | The Valparaiso Police Department is alerting the public that a sex offender has moved to 748 S. Franklin St. in Valparaiso.

Theft. Chesterton resident Randall Hicks reported $10,000 worth of construction tools stolen from a utility trailer on Hampton Manor Drive in the Valparaiso area. Valparaiso resident Jason Seramur reported $5,000 worth of tools from his utility trailer at the same location.
Vandalism/theft. Ind. 149 resident Michael Kloss reported someone damaged his mailbox and stole cigarettes from the vehicle in his garage.

MONDAY
Burglary. Antiques 101, 101 Broadway, reported the theft of an $800 wood and marble library table.
Vandalism. Richter Street resident Willie Benedict reported $400 damage to his vehicle.
Lost/stolen property. South Haven resident Diane Skoutaris reported her cellular phone was lost or stolen at Jewel on Indian Boundary Road.
JACKSON TOWNSHIP
MONDAY
Fraud. County Road 950 North resident Sharon Phillips reported someone stole her credit card and used it to make $373 worth of purchases.
PORTAGE
SUNDAY
Theft. Chicago resident Kevin Fitzgerald reported a $1,500 motor, a $100 compact disc player and a $200 pair of binoculars stolen from his boat at Marina Shores, 5976 Dune Harbor in Portage.
MONDAY
Vandalism. Lapine Street resident James Wring reported $500 damage to a vehicle.
Vandalism. Scott Falk reported $400 damage to the landscaping at his business at 2646 Hamstrom Road.
Theft. Teresa Lloyd reported that a wallet belonging to a male relative was stolen while the victim was participating in a sporting event at Willowcreek Middle School. The loss is $250.

MONDAY
Theft. McCool Road resident James Berti reported cigarettes and medication stolen from his vehicle.
Recovered vehicle. A Florida man's vehicle, stolen in Chicago Heights, Ill., was recovered at Rosewood Restaurant in South Haven.
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP
MONDAY
Theft. O'Neill Enterprises, 511 N. old Ind. 2, reported a $1,000 grain dryer and $1,000 worth of grain wagon gears stolen. He told police there have been other thefts.
