PREP ROUNDUP

Homewood-Flossmoor junior Jacob Robinson finished ninth in the vault on Saturday at the state boys gymnastics championship at Barrington.

Robinson had a score of 9.000. York's Christian Carmona won the event with a 9.750. Robinson tied for eighth in the preliminaries with a 9.300.

Teammate Izel Pullen tied for 21st in the floor exercise (9.100).

Palatine won the team title with 169.800.

Girls Water Polo

Lincoln-Way East Sectional: Kelley O'Connor's goal midway through the third quarter held up as the Vikings beat the host Griffins 4-3 to win the Lincoln-Way East Sectional.

It is H-F's fourth trip to the state finals in the last five years. The Vikings (17-14) will play three-time defending champion Fenwick in one quarterfinal on Thursday at Stevenson High School.

"We just played fantastic team defense," Vikings coach Pat Duignan said. "We didn't let them really amount much of an attack all game. We stopped them when we had to."

Erika Adamonis had eight saves, including one in the closing minute. H-F then ran out the clock.

The Vikings also got goals from Andrea Peterson, Julie Carlisle and Story Pumphrey.

Softball

Beecher 8, Andrew 2: Jill Jacobson was 4-for-5 as the Times No. 1 Bobcats (24-4) beat the Thunderbolts.

Jenna Grim was 3-for-4 with four RBIs while Jacqueline Grim was 3-for-4.

Homewood-Flossmoor 5, Argo 1: Sam Baumgartner and Maggie Kopas each had a double as the Vikings (15-10) topped the Argonauts.

Crete-Monee 6-4, Tinley Park 1-1: The Warriors (21-6) swept the nonconference doubleheader with as Katie Hannagan went 6-for-8 on the day with four doubles, four RBIs and two runs. Hannagan pitched the complete game two and had three doubles and drove in three of Crete-Monee's four runs in the game.

Marian Catholic 5-9, St. Viator 1-1: Kara Walsh had a pair of doubles in the second game as she was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored to help the Spartans (18-11, 12-6) to an East Suburban Catholic Conference sweep.

In the opener, Tracey Walsh had a pair of doubles and was 3-for-4 with two RBIS.

Eisenhower 16-19, T.F. North 2-6: Samantha Abrego went 3-for-6 with two runs and an RBI in the second game and Sharnell Cochran fanned five in the first game as the Meteors lost two.

St. Ignatius 9, St. Francis deSales 3: The Pioneers (9-16) fell in the seventh-place game of the Catholic League tournament.

Amy Gonzales had a double, a triple and two RBIs and a run, and Stephanie Rybarczyk was 3-for-4.



Baseball

St. Laurence 10, St. Francis deSales 0: Jorge Mota had the only hit as the Pioneers (7-22) lost to the Vikings in a Catholic League crossover game.

T.F. South 8, Bradley-Bourbonnais 3: The Rebels survived a bases-loaded bottom of the seventh for the nonconference win.

Ryan Venem scored twice and drove in a run and Jeff Booker had three RBIs for T.F. South (17-5-3).

St. Joseph's 7-3, Marian Catholic 4-4: Michael Nicks struck out a school-record 19 in the second game as the Spartans (16-11, 6-9) split with the Chargers in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.

Tim Dernulc was 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Andres Rodriguez was 3-for-5.

Thornwood 2, Joliet Twp. 1: Chris Luster drove in both runs in as the Thunderbirds (15-8) beat the Steelmen.

Boys Tennis

Southwest Suburban Conference Red Tournament: The Vikings won three doubles matches and one singles match to take the conference tournament with 36 points.

Lincoln-Way East was second (33).

Boys Volleyball

Morton 25-29, Marian Catholic 15-27: Pat McGary had 14 kills and six blocks, but the Spartans (12-16) lost at the Richards Invitational.

Friday's Late Results

Boys Track

Private School League Championship: Illiana Christian's Jordan Piaskowy won the pole vault (10-6) and the 3,200 (10:11.47) as the Vikings finished second at the Private School League meet with 126 points.

Walther Lutheran won with 197.

Other Illiana winners were: Pat Sons in the 300 hurdles (42.53).; Nick Kramer in the 800 (2:03.83); and Austin Warner in the 1,600 (4:44.43).

Girls Track

Class A Seneca Sectional: Seton Academy's Anisha Johnson won two events as the Sting was third with 74 points.

Johnson won the 100 (12.36) and the 200 (25.76). She also ran on the winning 400 relay team (48.99) and the qualifying 800 relay team (1:47.73).

Camille Smith qualified in the 200 (26.41) and the 400 (1:02.25) as she was second in both events. Ashley Turner was third in the 100 (12.74) but also qualified.

Beecher's 3,200 relay team finished second (10:39.14) and qualified.

Class AA Fenwick Sectional: Sophomore Angela Sell became the first-ever DeLaSalle girls track athlete to qualify for the state meet. She was second in the 400 (1:01.52).

Class AA Minooka Sectional: Rich East's 800 relay team qualified by winning the event in 1:45.5 and Jacina Sims also qualified in the 200 (26.1).
