MUNSTER | Bleeding from bullet wounds to the head and body, a Munster man passed out as police arrived at his house early Tuesday morning, officers said.

Peter Borgia, 38, was in critical condition Tuesday night at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Investigators are focusing on family members who might have had access to Borgia's house on Oriole Drive off White Oak Avenue in Munster, said Munster police Sgt. Steven Kovacik.

Officers found no forced entry to the house and recovered no gun. Borgia fell unconscious before police could gather much information on a suspect, Kovacik said.

"We're still trying to piece it together," Kovacik said.

Borgia called police at 3 a.m. He suffered more than two gunshot wounds to the body and head, Kovacik said. Blood poured from the head wound, Kovacik said. Borgia was taken to The Community Hospital in Munster, then airlifted to Advocate Christ, Kovacik said.

Investigators believe Borgia's shooter used a handgun, Kovacik said. The lack of forced entry or burglary indicates no danger to Munster residents, Kovacik said.

"It doesn't appear to be a random shooting," Kovacik said.

Kovacik hoped Tuesday afternoon for Borgia's recovery, in part because Borgia could likely give more information on his shooter. Borgia still had bullets inside him Tuesday afternoon that Munster police planned to analyze once the bullets were extracted, Kovacik said.

Borgia was unarmed when police arrived, Kovacik said.

If Borgia dies, his shooting would be Munster's second homicide of 2007. Investigators still seek the killer who disemboweled Wayne P. Smith, 25, of 7618 Manor Drive in early June.

" to all of those that have actually no idea of what happens in this town, there is NO gang problem. at all. there is no drug problem, there are actually very little problems(save for the corruption in the police department and the questionable usage of taxpayers money). munster is in a bubble. ive lived here all my life, and its been the same. in all honesty, i think we could probably deplete a little focus on "gangs" in munster and maybe worry a little about fixing the streets, fixing the education system, building parks where kids can have fun at without worrying about being kicked out by some cop with an attitude problem. all im saying, is that munsters direction is highly off focus. makes you wonder. " I am not saying that this is gang related just making a point that it is out there and everyone needs to open their eyes and see what's happening to Munster. Especially the administration.... "

" First, Munster is NOT the finest community w/i a 100 mile radius. Munster is a big fish in a small pond. Saying you are better than your surroundings isn't saying much - Hammond, Cal City, Lansing, Gary, Highland, Griffith, Cal Township, & Black Oak. You're the one who needs to get a life and travel outside your "safe" little borders and start realizing there's a whole other world out here. I was born and raised in Munster and couldn't wait to get away from the wannabe high society people of NWI - which is not all Munster residents. Just because SOME homeowners have more money than other areas doesn't make you better OR safer. It's a shame that there's more violence now but that's an unfortunate sign of the times. God be with Peter! "

" Why is it when something happens certain people are so eager to trash Munster? It is a great town, in fact it is better than the rest of all of these nearby communities. They are all Munsterwannabees. Munster is the finest community within a 100 mile radius at minimum. "

Munster resident wrote on Jul 18, 2007 9:08 PM:

" Any concerned residents should join their local neighborhood watch group or start one. I have one on my block that my family is a part of and it has done wonders for my neighborhood. People shouldn't complain after they do nothing to try and stop it. We should all report suspicious people when we see them. The police can't be everywhere all the time. "

Munster doesn't have a gang problem... this is an isolated circumstance wrote on Jul 18, 2007 6:54 PM:

" This man was/is 38 years old, it is clearly a domestic situation within the confines of his home and who he chooses to entertain and socialize with. This is not gang turf stuff. Quit ripping on Munster, it is a wonderful community with devoted people. I grew up on that street and still reside, happily, in Munster. It provides the finest in education, friendly, wonderful neighbors who care for their homes, excellent police, fire and other public servents and beautiful landscapes. Munster is a wonderful town and will remain that way thanks to the dedication of the people who reside there and the people who work for the town. "

" I support the law enforcement 150% it is just to bad that the administration doesn't do the same. I like CWR am saddened by what is happening in Munster and very sad for Pete. No one deserves anything like that. Munster needs to have some guide lines for "RENTERS" so those of us paying taxes and taking care of our homes feel safe. THANK YOU TO THE MUNSTER PD and I hope that soon your administration will back you up as well. "

CWR wrote on Jul 18, 2007 10:22 AM:

" Generally we don't. This most likely a domestic dispute gone terribly wrong. I live in this quiet neighborhood with great families with many small children close in age. It's too easy to blame our council when in fact as Munster residents we must be supportive of our men and women in law enforcement. As a resident of this community we should be sending the message to anyone thinking of purpitrating a crime here that we watch everything and are diligent about preserving the integrity we were taught growing up in this town, and now have decided to returned to raise our families . Blaming is weak. "

Munster taxpayer wrote on Jul 18, 2007 9:29 AM:
