NEW YORK | Don Imus has once again injected race into his radio show.

During an on-air conversation Monday about the arrests of suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones, Imus asked, "What color is he?"

Told by sports announcer Warner Wolf that Jones is "African-American," Imus responded: "There you go. Now we know."

Civil rights leader Al Sharpton issued a statement calling the exchange disturbing "because it plays into stereotypes." He says his National Action Network was still deciding how to respond.

Imus was fired from his previous show last year after he made a racially charged comment about the Rutgers women's basketball team, which included former E.C. Central star Dee Dee Jernigan

Representatives for Imus and WABC Radio haven't returned calls.

" Insulting language is also protected free speech. Why are there so many people who advocate censorship under certain conditions? Either we have free speech or we don't. "

" This guy just does not know when to keep quiet. There is freedom of speech, and then there is insulting language that is unfit for the airwaves.

He's crossed the line. "

" Think what we are all tired of is the double standard . Depends on who says what about whom . And how it is reported , just look at the headline , The Associated Press as already tried Imus without a jury of his peers . "
