HAMMOND | Members of the Stagehands Local 125 are unhappy out-of-state nonunion stagehands were hired to work at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, and will conduct an informational picket about the situation starting at 4 p.m. today outside of the casino.

Rick Wilbanks, president of the Stagehands Local 125, said the informational picket will be "the first of several times" union members will picket at the location.

Wilbanks said Stagehands Local 125 sought to provide stage labor at the Horseshoe Casino at a competitive rate, but nonunion workers from Illinois were selected.

He said the union includes area residents who are qualified to provide stage labor, and he isn't sure why union workers weren't selected to work at the casino.

Horseshoe Casino officials could not be reached for comment Friday.

" Typical Casino smokescreens.

They say they will provide local jobs ,get State concessions and breaks, then they do as they please.

Which means, you guessed it, non american workers or sub-living standard wages. Anything to keep the worker living hand to mouth, so they cannot advance in life and stay on their treadmill.

But , hey , bring all of your local money to them and roll it all on red........... as in put yourself in the RED.

Very Parasitic........ "

" I remember recently Horseshoe advertising on Chicago radio stations for workers for the new expansion, probably trying to attract experienced casino workers laid off in Illinois due to the smoking ban. "

" Good luck on your picket today! Its a shame that a big entertainment center does not want union stage hands! The big casinos/venues in Vegas have them , so why not here in NW Indiana!

These guys are very qualified for the job such as Seahunt and Jimmy R! I speak from past experience working with these guys on stages!

Good Luck Fellas!! "
