Brittany Fozkos won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke and contributed to a pair of relay victories to pace the Chesterton girls swimming and diving team past Merrillville, 148-37, in a Duneland Athletic Conference meet Tuesday. Shauna Foor (50, 100 freestyle) and Olivia Kabacinski (100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke) also took two firsts apiece for the Trojans.
Valparaiso 139, LaPorte 44: Alissa Johnson captured the 200 and 400 free and swam on two winning relays in the Vikings' DAC victory over the Slicers. Basia Nizolek and Allie Lamberson were on all three relays.
Lake Central 103, Portage 83: Cristina Gonzalez's firsts in the 50 and 100 free highlighted the red Indians' showing in a Duneland loss to the blue Indians.
Girls basketball
Boone Grove 66, LaCrosse 18: Kelly Dobson led the Wolves with 18 points in a PCC blowout of the Tigers. Brittany Dewell contributed 15 points and six steals for Boone Grove (2-3, 1-1). Meagan Elliott snagged eight caroms for LaCrosse (1-4, 0-1), which trailed 37-2 at the half.
Oregon-Davis 83, Washington Twp. 48: Abbey Walters (15 points) and Megan Kaczmarski (12) combined for seven 3-pointers, but the Senators (0-2) fell to the Bobcats (5-0), who hit 12 treys of their own.
West Central 58, Kouts 45: Brad Parks had 19 points and six rebounds in the Mustangs' season-opening loss to the Trojans. Morgan Drazer added 10 points for Kouts. Lance Kruger poured in 30 points for West Central.
New Prairie 50, Westville 30: Doug Warnke's nine points and Ben Reed's seven rebounds topped the Blackhawks in a season-opening loss to the Cougars.
John Glenn 45, South Central 33: Shelby Worthen scored seven points in the Satellites' loss to the Falcons. Stephanie Balon grabbed seven rebounds for South Central (0-4).
Hobart 50, Calumet 40: Amanda Corral and Kim Tokarski each tallied 10 points to help the Brickies get past the Warriors. Tanita Bond's 11 points led all scorers for Calumet.
Roosevelt 76, Clark 40: TatiAnna Washington racked up 26 points in the Panthers' romp over the Pioneers. Jessica Thrash followed with 18 points and Porsha Anderson 11 for Roosevelt (2-0). Brittant Delgado scored 14 points for Clark (1-4).
Boys basketball
Lew Wallace 72, Chicago Carver 38: Braden Dawson scored 15 points and snatched 25 rebounds in the Times No. 1 Hornets' victory. Damion McGee topped Wallace with 17 points in its opener.
