INSIDE INDIANA BUSINESS: Software developer to expand HQ in Valparaiso

Integrated Process Automation and Control Technologies Inc. (IPACT) is expanding its corporate headquarters and development center in Valparaiso, creating 10 new engineering jobs by 2011. The software and systems developer will invest more than $2 million for its new facility. The company is expecting applications now and will pay an hourly rate of $47.

IU to announce I-Light network completion

Indiana University will announce today in South Bend the completion of the I-Light system, the state's ultra-high speed data network. When I-Light is fully operational, 1,000 miles of fiber will reach every corner of the state, connecting more than 40 higher education institutions, both public and private. Campus hook-ups are now underway and are expected to be completed by the year's end.

Hendricks Regional Health to expand

Hendricks Regional Health is planning a 205,000 square-foot expansion to the north end of the Danville hospital. The three-story addition will house six state-of-the-art operating rooms, outpatient services, pre-procedure and recovery areas and 37 private pre- and post-surgery patient rooms. The estimated cost of the project is $60 million. Hendricks Regional Health will break ground immediately and expects the completion date to be January 2010.

State to receive $2.4M emergency grant

The U.S. Department of Labor is providing Indiana with a $2.4 million National Emergency Grant (NEG) for temporary employment for up to 200 workers impacted by recent severe weather. The emergency funds will provide temporary jobs to assist in recovery efforts, including the clean-up, demolition, renovation and reconstruction of public structures. The federal funds will be administered by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

IU School of Medicine to house research center

The nation's only National Gene Vector Biorepository and Coordinating Center for gene therapy research will be housed at the Indiana University School of Medicine. The school received a three-year, $3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for the center. Gene vectors are used to carry genetic materials in the body in the hopes of treating or preventing disease.

Retirement community to create 100 Jobs

The Stratford Companies LLC, headquartered in Indianapolis, has opened an independent and assisted living facility in Carmel which will create more than 100 jobs over the next 12 months. The Stratford at WestClay is created by the developer, marketer and operator of Active Senior Living Continuing Care Communities, also known as Continuing Care Retirement Communities.
