High speed rail seminar rescheduled for Nov. 16

The Ninth Annual Golden Spike Seminar, presented by the Indiana High Speed Rail Association, has been rescheduled to Nov.16 at Barnes & Thornburg LLP, Conference Center, 11 S. Meridian St., fifth floor, Indianapolis.

Cost for the seminar is $99. RSVP by Oct. 3 by calling (219) 887-1351. Hotel reservations can be made at the Hilton Garden Inn in Indianapolis by calling (317) 955-9700. Use the ID "Indiana Rail" to get a $129 room rate. Refunds will be given to those who cannot attend on Nov. 16.

USPS specifies deadlines for military packages

The U.S. Postal Service is reminding families and friends of servicemen overseas to send holiday packages and letters early.

Nov. 13, is the deadline for sending holiday packages to troops stationed overseas using Parcel Post to all Air/Army Post Office (APO) or Fleet Post Office (FPO) ZIP Codes. The deadline for first-class mail (letters/cards) is Dec. 4 or 11, depending on the APO address. The Postal Service also offers a free military care kit to make it easier to send packages overseas. The Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes included in the kit can be shipped to any APO/FPO in the world, regardless of weight, for $8.95. The kit may be ordered by calling the USPS Expedited Package Supply Center at (800) 610-8734. More information is available at www.usps.gov.

YMCA spotlights Portage businesses

During October, November, December and January, the Portage Township YMCA will be spotlighting Portage businesses.

Weekly, a businesses will receive free recognition in the lobby to promote their business. The Greater Portage Chamber of Commerce will be highlighted during the first week. All of the weeks have already been filled by local businesses.
