The Indiana State Legislature passed a budget increasing the state funding for Indiana University Northwest by 1.4 percent in 2007-2008 and another 1.4 percent in 2008-2009. Purdue Calumet received increases of 2.0 percent and 4.0 percent, while Purdue North Central's increases were 5.3 percent and 7.5 percent.

These increases are roughly in line with enrollment expectations, but, for IUN and PUC, represent decreases in the campus's budgets in 2007-2008, once inflation (expected to be about 3 percent) is factored in. The overall budgets for area campuses, including state appropriations and tuition and fee revenues seem likely to fall in real (inflation-adjusted) terms.

Indiana University has proposed a 5 percent tuition increase for all students (all campuses), while PUC and PNC will see tuition rise by 4.5 percent for the upcoming academic year. This means an increase in inflation-adjusted tuition for students at the region's four-year public institutions. Ivy Tech's tuition will rise by 3.9 percent, also above the rate of inflation.

Indiana's tuition increases generally are in line with national trends.
