Roche Diagnostics in Indianapolis is transferring about 300 jobs to Germany in an effort to consolidate operations. The positions are Global Roche Professional Diagnostics Operations and Research and Development functions. Roche has two sites in Germany, located in Penzberg and Mannheim, which do about 85 percent of the company's manufacturing. Relocation will begin in October and continue until June of 2011.

Plainfield company adds 80 jobs

Plainfield's MD Logistics says it has added 80 jobs because of new work it is doing for Audiovox Corp. and an expansion of its facility.MD Logistics provides contract warehousing, inventory management, fulfillment, distribution and transportation services.

Conseco reaches financial settlement

Carmel-based Conseco Inc. has reached a settlement with state insurance regulators. The settlement involves two Conseco subsidiaries, Conseco Senior Health Insurance Co. and Bankers Life and Casualty Co. The deal ends a multi-state market conduct examination led by Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, Texas and Florida related to long-term care claims practices and procedures, complaint handling and sales and marketing practices. Conseco will pay a fine of up to $2.3 million and could pay an additional $10 million if it fails to meet benchmarks. It also will pay up to $4 million in remediation. As part of the deal, the company will spend $26 million on system upgrades.

Life sciences company to add jobs

DCL Medical Laboratories says it plans to expand its headquarters and clinical laboratory in Indianapolis and create 125 new jobs. The company says it will invest more than $4.7 million and add more than 20,000 square feet of space.The company is hiring pathologists, clinical lab professionals, IT workers and service personnel.

Maryland biotech firm buying in Terre Haute

Maryland-based ChemGen Corp. is acquiring the former Alpharma fermentation facility in Terre Haute. ChemGen will begin making improvements to the 67,000-square-foot facility, which will be used to manufacture new products. The company says about 20 engineering, production and administrative jobs will be created within two years.

Chamber releases 'Best Places to Work' list

Investment company Edward Jones and Indianapolis architectural firm Schmidt Associates have taken the top honors in the third annual "Best Places to Work in Indiana" program. The Indiana Chamber of Commerce says this is the third time that Edward Jones has finished number one among the large employers.Schmidt Associates has won first place both times it has entered the small to medium-sized employer category.
