Gov. Mitch Daniels tells Inside INdiana Business that there will be a solution to the property tax crisis facing the state. In an interview today, the governor was asked about the possibility of a special session. "Odds are that there will," he said. But, a general agreement needs to be in place first.
U.S. department to ponder time zone plan
The U.S. Department of Transportation says it will consider a proposal to move the time zone boundaries for Knox, Daviess, Martin, Pike and Dubois counties from the Central Time Zone to the Eastern Time Zone. DOT says it took the action after a request was issued by the Boards of Commissioners for each county.
First Indiana delays Q2 earnings release
First Indiana Corp. says it will delay its second quarter earnings release, which was scheduled for July 19. The company says it had decided to use BKD, LLP as its independent auditor for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31. However, following the July 9 announcement of the pending acquisition of First Indiana by Marshall & Ilsley Corp., BKD declined to become the company's independent auditor for the interim period.
Steel Dynamics makes first Columbia shipment
Fort Wayne-based Steel Dynamics Inc. has made its first shipment of welded rails from its operation in Columbia City. This is the first commercial use of the new rail-welding facility. The company says it shipped the rails to an industrial site in southern Indiana.
Kokomo ranks in top 25 of towns
CNN Money is out with its list of the nation's top 25 Most Affordable Towns and Kokomo makes the list at 24. The news organization says that the median family income in Kokomo is more than $50,000 and the median home price in 2006 was just over $87,000.
Columbus Regional receives Innovator Award
Columbus Regional Hospital is one of three hospitals in the nation to receive the 2007 Most Wired Innovator Award from the Hospitals & Health Network magazine. The hospital received the award for its Wireless Nurse Call System, which allows patients to contact a nurse through a portable wireless device, instead of a call light.
MCL gets new name, logo, site
MCL Inc. is changing its name and launching a new logo and Web site. The company will be known as MCL Restaurant & Bakery. The company also has a new brand promise of "Homemade. Every Day." The Indianapolis-based company operates 20 restaurants in Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. Read and view new logo.
Rose-Hulman team has strong finish
Students at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology finished 18th overall in a global competition in search of the best fuel mileage for a vehicle. The Rose- Hulman team developed a vehicle that got 1,972.9 miles per gallon. The best mileage performance was achieved by a team from France, whose vehicle got more than 10,000 miles per gallon. The Rose-Hulman team was the only entry from the United States.
