Slow sales in the auto industry have prompted Chrysler LLC to idle two plants this week in Kokomo. Indiana Transmission Plants one and two are not in production in an effort to reduce stock. A Chrysler official tells Inside INdiana Business the facilities will be back online next week.
IU to break ground on $10 million incubator
Indiana University will break ground Tuesday morning on its $10 million Bloomington Incubator. It is the school's first major initiative under the new Innovate Indiana program, a project to expand economic development across the state behind the IU Research and Technology Corp. The 40,000 square-foot facility, designed to accommodate both life science and Internet technology start-ups, is expected to be completed in July.
Cuban Denies SEC Claims
Indiana University graduate and professional basketball team owner Mark Cuban says allegations of insider trading levelled at him by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) "are false and they will be proven to be so." Cuban issued the comments after the SEC accused him of insider trading involving the sale of 600,000 shares of an Internet search engine company. Cuban graduated from IU in 1981.
Lugar: "No vision" from auto industry leaders
As Congress debates whether to give the Big Three U.S. automakers billions of dollars, one Indiana Senator says he is opposed to any bailout. In an interview with Inside INdiana Business Host Gerry Dick, Senator Richard Lugar (R) says at this point all he sees are "hands out and the thought that political clout ought to win" because of how the election turned out. He says there is no vision from the automakers on how they would implement such a cash injection.
