Noblesville-based Derek Daly Design LLC, owned by racing and broadcast veteran Derek Daly, will design a portion of a major motorsports facility in California. Daly tells Inside INdiana Business that he will design the road course, which will be part of eight racing venues, 15 tracks, retail and entertainment space at the Riverside Motorsports Park. Daly says his experience as a former Formula I and Indianapolis 500 driver will play a major part in the design of the track.

Genesco subpoenaed in federal probe

Tennessee-based Genesco Inc. says it has received a subpoena from the U.S. attorney's office in New York relating to the company's negotiations and merger agreement with Indianapolis-based Finish Line. The company says the subpoena relates to documents being sought in connection with alleged violations of federal fraud statutes.

Orthopedic supplier to be acquired

New York-based Greatbatch Inc. has signed a deal to acquire Precimed for $125 million. Switzerland-based Precimed, a supplier to the orthopedic industry, has manufacturing operations in Indianapolis and Columbia City.

ISTA wants funding preserved

The Indiana State Teachers Association is calling on state lawmakers and the governor to preserve funding for public schools when considering property tax reform plans.The association cites results of a poll showing 50 percent of respondents favoring protection of funding for public education as a main responsibility of the General Assembly, while 46 percent chose reducing property taxes.The ISTA objects to the proposed removal of property taxes from the school general fund.

DePauw narrows candidate list

DePauw University's presidential search committee says it has met the person who will lead the university as its next president. The university has completed the first round of interviews and says it has narrowed the list of candidates.

Chase to expand no-envelope ATMs

A Chase project that began in Indianapolis in 2004 is going nationwide. Chase says it will deploy 900 no-envelope ATM machines that can accept up to 30 checks per deposit. The company plans to upgrade or replace 5,000 deposit-taking ATMs by 2010.

Verizon to allow other devices

Verizon Wireless says by the end of 2008, it will make it possible for customers to use wireless devices, software and applications not offered by the company. The company says any device that meets minimum technical standards will be allowed to be activated on its network.
