Ivy Tech Community College's Indianapolis campus has been named one of the fastest growing community colleges in the nation. Community College Week ranks the institution second among schools with an enrollment of 10,000 students or more, following a 22 percent enrollment increase from fall 2007 to fall 2008. Enrollment this fall for the Indianapolis campus has surpassed 21,500.
EnerDel to supply batteries for global integration project
Indianapolis-based EnerDel Inc. says it will supply advanced battery systems for a groundbreaking smart grid integration program, involving more than a dozen of its partners throughout the world. The lithium-ion battery maker says this will be the first time electric vehicles, stationary grid storage, solar power and rapid charging infrastructure are combined in a real-world environment.
Southern Indiana hospital announces cancer treatment partnership
Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Clarian Health and the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center have unveiled an affiliation agreement. As part of the deal, the hospital gains access to resources at the cancer center. Good Samaritan patients will also be able to enroll in clinical trials at the center and through the Hoosier Oncology Group.
Former commerce director seeks secretary of state post
A former executive director of the Indiana Department of Commerce is launching a campaign for Secretary of State. Thomas McKenna is kicking-off his candidacy for the Democratic nomination today with an 11 city tour. McKenna most recently served as vice president of labor relations for AK Steel Corporation.
Purdue University joins Cybersecurity Consortium
Purdue University is partnering with two other universities and Northrop Grumman Corp. to address some of the world's most pressing cybersecurity issues. Purdue's Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security will work to convert technology ideas to real-life applications. The Cybersecurity Research Consortium will initially sponsor 10 projects and provide student fellowships in many areas of cybersecurity.
Indiana statewide research institute receives federal grants
The National Institutes of Health has awarded the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute four supplemental grants totaling nearly $2.5 million. The funds will support the addition of the University of Notre Dame to the Indiana CTSI and recruit people to participate in clinical trials of new drugs and devices.
Health care products company staying in Indy
California-based Apria Healthcare Inc. is releasing more details about job reductions at its Indianapolis operations. The company says it is moving some billing and collections positions to facilities outside Indiana, but the Indianapolis facility will remain open. The company services hundreds of customers each day at the operations. It also has a repair center and distribution center at the facility.
Dow AgroSciences expands relationship with Canadian Biotech
Indianapolis-based Dow AgroSciences LLC and Agrisoma Biosciences Inc. of Canada have signed a research and commercial license option agreement. The deal provides Dow AgroSciences with access to Agrisoma's proprietary Engineered Trait Loci (ETL) technology. The two companies have collaborated since 2004 on high value protein production in plants and plant cell cultures.
MD Logistics announces management promotions
Plainfield-based MD Logistics Inc. has made some changes to its executive staff following the retirement of General Manager Bob Whitney.
Jeff Luthman has been named vice president of distribution operations and John Sell has been appointed vice president of freight forwarding and value-added solutions.
Volunteers needed to help with tax filings
A financial fitness campaign in Indianapolis is seeking volunteers. The United Way of Central Indiana says the Save-Earn-Learn initiative is expected to help an estimated 9,000 people receive all the tax refunds or credits to which they are entitled. Tax preparers, screeners and reviewers are needed for the effort which will officially launch next month.
