A second Indiana casino is looking to hire. Blue Chip Casino Hotel in Michigan City is hosting a job fair Wednesday, in anticipation of its $130 million expansion project opening next month. Full-time and part-time positions are available for the new casino, hotel and two restaurants. Indiana Live Casino in Shelbyville recently announced that it will host a series of job fairs in January and February, seeking to fill more than 350 positions.
Kokomo mayor: Bailout would prevent ripple effect
Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight says he doesn't think Hoosiers are well-educated about the consequences of the Big Three U.S. automakers not receiving a bailout. That's why Goodnight and Marion Mayor Wayne Seybold are organizing a roundtable discussion next week in Indianapolis. Goodnight says if the automakers file for bankruptcy it freezes them from creditors and could cause a huge ripple effect. He says those creditors would likely include a number of local companies.
Credit unions try to help GM
In an effort to help one of the struggling American automakers, all 206 Indiana credit unions are taking part in a national program with General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM). The "Invest in America" initiative will provide a discount on GM vehicles for credit union members. The Indiana Credit League says that includes 2.2 million Hoosiers. The league estimates that credit unions from Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Illinois have approximately $10 billion available for low-cost auto loans.
WellPoint partners on health care cost estimate system
Indianapolis-based WellPoint Inc. (NYSE: WLP) has announced a partnership with four medical plans to provide online information about health care costs. Through the collaboration, the medical plans will provide total estimated cost ranges for 39 medical procedures. The partnership is with Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield plans in Pennsylvania, Washington, Minnesota and Michigan.
