Seminar to highlight green building practices

Two associations are holding a seminar and tour to teach real estate industry professionals and interested consumers about green building practices and to showcase homes in various stages of construction to highlight these practices.

The Greater Northwest Indiana Association of Realtors and the Porter County Builders Association are hosting the "Green Work Boots Tour" from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 17 at Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road, Portage.

There will be a three-hour class for Indiana Realtors, appraisers, lenders and insurers about green building practices. Licensed Indiana and Illinois real estate agents will receive three hours of elective continuing education credits for after completing the course.

After the course, lunch will be served and later participants will begin a two-hour tour through the The Village in Burns Harbor. The Village is the first development in the United States to receive a certification under the National Association of Home Builder's National Green Building Standard.
