Survey: Most Hoosiers planning to spend less this holiday season

Deloitte is out with its annual holiday survey of retail spending and trends. It shows 58 percent of Hoosiers say they plan to spend less this holiday season, compared to 38 percent last year. Managing Partner for Deloitte's Indianapolis office Mike Becher says many Indiana consumers who were asked say they are going to spend the same or slightly more on others and less on themselves. Becher says the survey also shows about 70 percent will purchase gift cards, while 50 percent say they still have not redeemed gift cards they received last year.

Honda to dedicate Indiana assembly line

A ceremony will be held Monday to dedicate the new assembly line at Honda Manufacturing of Indiana's LLC plant in Greensburg. The site began producing the 2009 Honda Civic last month. Honda Motor Co. Ltd.

(NYSE:HMC) Global President Takeo Fukui, Honda Manufacturing of Indiana President Yuzo Ueohara, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels and U.S. Representative Mike Pence (R-6) are expected to attend the event.

Purdue expert: Web shopping only holiday bright spot

A Purdue retail expert believes Internet shopping will be the only winner this holiday retail season. Purdue Retail Institute Researcher Richard Feinberg expects it to increase at least 10 percent. An estimated 135 million consumers will buy holiday gifts online this year, including five million new households who have not previously done so.

Online sales are estimated at $35-$40 billion this holiday season.

Debt recovery agency to expand HQ, add 300 jobs

National debt recovery agency Premiere Credit of North America is expanding its Indianapolis headquarters and adding 300 jobs over the next several years. The firm, which specializes in recovering unpaid government debt, plans to invest more than $4 million to expand its east-side headquarters and to locate a second operation at a yet-to-be-announced site in Indianapolis. Premiere Credit will begin hiring staff immediately and will reach out to military veterans as part of its recruiting efforts.
