What is it worth? That's a question to be answered during the Antique Appraisal Fair and Luncheon Saturday at Purdue University North Central. Sponsored by PNC's Women's Association, the fair will feature guest Martin Papke, a certified appraiser and owner of Kathy's Antiques in Chesterton.

"We did this five years ago and it was fun and well received," said PNC Women's Association board member Judy Back. "Everyone brings a treasure from home -n maybe it belonged to your great-grandparents -n and they let you talk about the item and its family history. Then he (Papke) tells what he knows about it, and its value."

Back kept track of the total cost of items appraised during the first time they hosted such an event.

"We had $20,000 worth of items," she said.

The PNC Women's Association was formed in 2001 as a way of bringing the women on the campus together. In addition to a fall and spring luncheon, the association goes on two bus trips a year, including a Nov. 1 trip to Chicago for some holiday shopping and to check out "The Buddy Holly Story" at the Drury Lane Theatre. The association also hosts quilters, knitting and crocheting interest groups as well as food drives and its recent "World Smile Day" bake sale.

"Everything we do benefits women and children," Back said.

The association also presents an annual $1,000 gift to PNC in which they choose an academic department that will use the funds "to enhance the student experience at school."

"We're mostly philanthropic," Back said.
