Body of Katoucha Niane, former top model, found in the River Seine

The body of Katoucha Niane, one of the first African women to attain international stardom as a model and a vocal opponent of female genital mutilation, was found in the Seine River, police said Friday.

Known simply as Katoucha, the former top model for Yves Saint Laurent and other top designers was found Thursday near the Garigliano bridge in Paris, judicial police in Paris said.

An autopsy showed no signs of foul play, pointing to the possibility that the 47-year-old may have fallen accidentally into the river, they said.

She had been missing since January and was last seen returning home from a party. She lived in a houseboat near Paris' Alexandre III bridge, and her handbag was later found on the boat. AP

Police in London clear Amy Winehouse of witness tampering

A spokesman for Amy Winehouse says London police are no longer investigating the 24-year-old singer on suspicion of witness tampering in a case involving her husband.

The spokesman said Friday that Winehouse isn't required to return to a police station for further questioning. She was arrested in December and released on bail.

Her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, appeared in a London court Friday on charges of attacking a pub landlord and later conspiring with him to withdraw as a witness at the trial. Fielder-Civil pleaded not guilty. AP

JK Rowling says shady 'Harry Potter Lexicon' would hurt fans

As the creator of the Harry Potter books sees it, her kindness to fans might come back to haunt her.

In papers filed for a lawsuit in Manhattan, J.K. Rowling says she feels betrayed by a fan, Steven Vander Ark, for his role in trying to publish an unauthorized reference work, "Harry Potter Lexicon."

Ark is editor of a Web site containing a fan-created collection of essays and encyclopedic material on the Potter universe, including lists of spells and potions found in the books, a catalog of magical creatures and a who's who in the wizarding world.

Rowling said she was especially irked that the site's owner and the lexicon's would-be publisher, RDR Books, continued to insist that her acceptance of free, fan-based Web sites justified the efforts.

"I am deeply troubled by the portrayal of my efforts to protect and preserve the copyrights I have been granted in the Harry Potter books," she wrote in court papers filed Wednesday in a lawsuit she brought against the small Muskegon, Mich., publisher.

She said she intends to publish her own definitive Harry Potter encyclopedia. AP
