A RETRO FAVORITE - - Jimi Jamison, the lead singer for the hit 80s band Survivor, will perform one concert this weekend at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 9 at Majestic Star Casino and Hotel in Gary, Ind.. Survivor scored a number of hits before the band separated, most notably "Eye of the Tiger," used in the hit 1982 film "Rocky III." (Times Archive Photo)
Retro concert favorite
As the lead singer of Survivor, and previously for groups like Target, Cobra and more, Jimi Jamison helped produce some of the most memorable sounds in rock music during the 1980s.
In fact, the Survivor song "Eye of the Tiger," made famous on the soundtrack for Sylvester Stallone and Mr. T duking it out in "Rocky III" in 1982 became on the anthems of the decade.
Jamison is doing a solo concert at 8 p.m. this Saturday at Majestic Star Casino and Hotel.
I'm told Jamison will perform all of his classic favorites like "Burning Heart," "I'm Always Here" and "Can't Hold Back," along with his newest releases.
Tickets are $20 and on sale now at the Star Gift Shop at Majestic Star Casino and Hotel, 1 Buffington Harbor Drive.
Seating for the concert begins at 7 p.m..
For more info call (888) 225-8259.
It will be interesting to see Jamison perform. One of the last times I saw him was when he appeared in a TV commercial for Starbucks coffee in 2004, along with the rest of the Survivor band members, doing a parody of "Eye of the Tiger."
Tune in tonight
If you read my weekly From the Farm column on the cover of the food section today, you already know about tonight's TV segment.
But here's another friendly reminder.
Since the grilling season is in full swing, all this month I'm helping our local PBS station in Merrillville, Lakeshore Television Channel 56, with some fun barbecue segments on the 9 p.m. Lakeshore News Tonight newscasts all this month on Wednesday and Fridays.
So tonight, you'll definitely want to tune in to Channel 56 for some fun and surprises.
Tonight, it's Mary Beth Schultz of Valparaiso in the spotlight. It's her zipped-up whole grilled chicken recipe cooked over a beer can (as featured on the front of the food section) that you'll see us whipping up on air.
Of course, Schultz is most famous for her quiche recipe that netted her a trip to the 2006 Pillsbury National Bake-Off in Orlando, Fla..
For more info and recipe fun, check out our online edition at The Times at www.nwi.com or www.lakeshoreptv.com. By the way, you can also watch my grilling segments rebroadcast online at the online edition of The Times in our multimedia section on the home page.
