SPOTLIGHT: 27th Annual Thanksgiving All-Star Blues Revue
Blues fans can work off their Turkey Day stuffing by jamming out to their music of choice tonight at the "27th Annual Thanksgiving All-Star Blues Revue" at Tommy's Place, 12237 S. Western Ave., Blue Island.
The annual event is produced by Chicagoland concert promoters, Buddy Monaco and Red Rose of SoPro Productions.
Monaco jokes that SoPro turns the South Side suburb into "Blues Island" every year at this time with his company's well-worn tradition of presenting some of the Midwest's greatest blues artists together on one stage.
"The show starts at 10 p.m. and goes until 'blue in the morning'," Monaco joked. "We present some of the finest blues performers in Chicago, and this event is always a good time for the fans and the musicians alike."
Monaco promises "no turkeys" on his Thanksgiving musical menu.
Jamming throughout the night in assorted "mix and match" mini-sets will be guitarists Joey Drada and Frank Anastos; bassists John Falstrom and Mike Bailey; drummers Pat Doody and Dan Wile, and keyboardist Greg Wolfman.
And a mainstay at every SoPro event has been The Chicago Horns -- Bill McFarland (trumpet), Hank Ford (sax), Kenny Anderson (trumpet) and Tony Ferraro (sax) -- who return to blow once again.
Also sitting in and spotlighted will be harmonica/vocalist Doug Lee, vocalist Deb Seitz and the string-bending Chicagoland rock/blues icon Joe "Guitarzilla" Jammer.
A former guitar tech for Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page during that band's glory days, Jammer also opened European tour dates for the mighty Zep with his own group during the early ‘70s, and has gone on to forge his own recording/touring career over the years since.
Jammer returned to the Windy City a few years ago, after spending a long time in Montreal, Canada. White Sox baseball fans known Jammer for his rockin' homage to the team -- "Play Ball: White Sox Victory" -- recorded during the ball club's World Series winning season.
