SENIOR LUNCH | Griffith

The Griffith Senior Citizens Center, 349 N. Indiana Ave., has lunch catered by the Griffith Meat Market at noon Mondays through Fridays. The cost is $4 and reservations must be made one day in advance.

POLONIA BUS TRIP | Portage

Polish Pilgrimage Society of Nativity Parish will sponsor a Polonia bus trip to Chicago on Nov. 5, with tours of St. Mary of Czestochowa and Five Holy Martyrs churches, as well as shopping at Bobak's Deli. A Polish-style meal will be served at Szalas Restaurant. A luxury coach bus will leave at 9 a.m. from Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Road, and return about 5:30 p.m. Cost is $50, including lunch. NEW SENIOR SERVICES | Merrillville

Merrillville Clerk Treasurer Eugene M. Guernsey has created a new department within the clerk treasurer's offices at the Merrillville Town Complex, 7820 Broadway. Senior Services, a nonprofit service and an all-volunteer operation, will provide information, literature and guidance to Merrillville seniors. Highland Parks and Recreation Department offers senior low-impact aerobics 9:30 to 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Lincoln Center, 2450 Lincoln St. The cost for this mini-session is $9.50 for residents and $12.50 for nonresidents. Register.

AARP DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM | Valparaiso

The AARP Driver Safety Program is a classroom course that is specially designed for seniors to learn to be better and safer drivers and to strengthen driving skills. The course reviews the rules of the road and helps students learn how to adjust to common age-related changes like vision, hearing, and reaction time. The class also includes information on aggressive drivers, anti-lock brakes, car phones, license renewal requirements, and the effect that medications can have on driving. Some insurance companies will offer a discount to those who complete the 8-hour course. The course is offered to persons aged 50 and older at the Village Park Enrichment Center at Banta from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 16 and 17, with a break for lunch. The cost is $10. Pre-registration is required.

SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAM | Hammond

Greater Hammond Community Services and Hammond Parks & Recreation invite seniors 60 or older from the Greater Hammond Area to attend the Senior Nutrition Programs, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Hammond Civic Center, 5825 S. Sohl Ave. The program provides an opportunity for seniors to participate in socialization, activities and a meal that provides one-third of the daily nutrition requirements. The cost is $2 per day.
