CANCER RESOURCE PROGRAMS | Munster

The Cancer Resource Centre, 900 Ridge Road, Suite J, offers free education programs and support groups for those with a cancer diagnosis and their families. Call to register for any educational or networking group.

* 10 to 11 a.m. Monday and 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesday yoga or beginners or accomplished meditators.

* 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday Meet the Expert: Hypnosis and the Natural Relief of Pain. Tim Shurr, Hypnotism Academy of Indiana, will uncover the myths surrounding hypnosis and will demonstrate the power of suggestion, how to heighten your awareness.

* 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday Reiki is a technique that aids the body in releasing stress and tension by creating deep relaxation and inner balance. Facilitated by Pam Kozy, of Heart in Hand. A prescription is required from your physician before attending.

* 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday Chi Gong is the precursor of Tai Chi that fosters balance, energy, strength and flexibility.

* 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday The art of Tai Chi is considered "meditation in motion." Classes emphasize balance, posture, breathing techniques, concentration and complete relaxation.

BLOOD DRIVE | Chicago Heights

A Heartland blood drive is from 3 to 7 p.m. Nov. 19 at Chicago Heights Park District: 1400 Chicago Road. To be a blood donor, individuals must be at least 17 years old or 16 with written parental permission; weigh at least 110 pounds; be symptom free of cold, flu and allergies; and be in good health. FLU SHOTS AND CLINIC | Michigan City

The VNA of LaPorte Regional Health System is offering discounted flu and pneumonia shots, both on a walk-in and community clinic basis. Flu shots are offered for $25, and pneumonia for $40. Needle free Bioject vaccinations may be available. The VNA accepts cash or check, in full, at the time of service, and thus is able to offer these discounted prices. Also accepted is Medicare Part B, and participants must present a Medicare card. VNA does not bill private insurance for these services.

Walk-ins are welcome from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday at VNA, 901 S. Woodland Ave., Michigan City. The remaining community-based clinics will be as follows: 3 to 6 p.m. today, Kroger, 55 Pine Lake Plaza, LaPorte; and 3 to 6 p.m., Nov. 29, Al's, 2600 Franklin St., Michigan City.

Participants will have the chance to find ways to relieve chronic pain during a free Shoulder, Knee & Hip Pain Seminar at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Ingalls Family Care Center, 1600 Torrence Ave., at the corner of 170th Street and Torrence. Dr. David Smith, orthopedic surgeon on staff at Ingalls who has special expertise in treating shoulder, knee and hip pain and improving mobility with a focus on using the least invasive treatments, will present the seminar. Smith will discuss joint-related problems such as pain, arthritis, rotator cuff injuries and meniscal tears of the knee, as well as provide an overview of the anatomy and latest surgical procedures for repair of the shoulder, knee and hip.
