East Chicago officials are touting the idea of bringing the 2016 Summer Olympic Games to Chicago by hosting a 5-kilometer run/walk on June 20.
The event will begin at Block Junior High School, and will feature former Olympic boxer Montell Griffen.
Mayor George Pabey said it would be good for his city if the Olympics were held nearby. "We are in unquestionable favor of returning the historic games to our great country and especially to our neighboring city of Chicago," Pabey said, in a prepared statement.
Los Angeles and Atlanta are the only U.S. cities to previously host the Summer Olympic games.
