For the third consecutive year , the International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago (ILCC), in partnership with the Chicago Park District presents Cine en el Parque/ Film in the Park, beginning today, June 24, but the series may be coming to East Chicago parks.
At dusk, moviegoers will have the opportunity to enjoy a movie in their own communities.
"I think this is definitely the most engaging program our center offers," said Berenice Vargas, executive assistant at ILCC.
These free family-friendly films are shown on a large screen in various parks during the summer. The centers' goal is to bring the theater to various communities in and around the Chicagoland area.
According to Vargas, the ILCC' marketing director has started conversations with East Chicago's parks department in hopes of offering these fabulous foreign films here.
"Our goal is to bring the theater to various communities not only in Chicago but also in northwest Indiana, and at the same time, to foster a sense of pan-Latino solidarity, commented Pedro Vargas, founder and executive director of ILCC.
The films to be presented were selected from the 25th Chicago Latino Film Festival, which is also sponsored by the ILCC.
"Although Chicago prides itself for its cultural richness and diversity, many Latino communities are isolated, underserved and with limited access or resources for family entertainment," Vargas said.
"The line-up is amazing this year, " Vargas said. "We'll be showing movies from Columbia, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, and the United States."
