Visiting the vets
Members of Hobart American Legion Auxiliary Unit 54 and groups from the First District American Legion, its auxiliaries and the Sons of the Legion joined members and state officers from all 11 districts in Indiana to visit the Indiana Veteran Home at West Lafayette on June 8.
They celebrated the annual State American Legion Day, close of books and membership day. Veterans were visited outdoors and in their rooms, a fishing derby for residents was sponsored by South Haven Post 502, a cookout, music, and bingo marked the occasion.
We enjoyed our visit there with the veterans who gave so much for us. Chester Sol and R. Discher, the veterans adopted by Hobart Auxiliary Unit 54, were visited in their room with a small gift and news of Hobart.
Active in and outside Hobart
Hobart Kiwanis Club sponsors the Hobart Key Club, its high school equivalent, which is a very active group. Key Club members collected $1,092 for the Relay for Life, helped with the Linus Blanket Project, collected Pennies for Pets for the humane society and sponsored a "Kiss a Senior Goodbye" project.
The Hobart Kiwanis Club is also assisting Crown Point with its newly formed Kiwanis Club.
