GARY | A third man has been identified as the victim of gun violence Thursday in the city.

Twenty-six-year-old Charles Madyun was the first of three young men shot to death over the course of four hours, according to a spokeswoman for the Lake County coroner's office.

Madyun, of the 600 block of Illinois Street, was found shot to death at 6:51 p.m. in the 2100 block of Whitcomb Street by investigators from the coroner's office.

At 8:15 p.m., coroner's office investigators were dispatched to E. 35th Court and Tennessee Street, where a man was found shot to death in a car.

Keith Rose, 22, of the 9000 block of E. 5th Avenue suffered multiple gunshot wounds while sitting in the car in an apparent homicide, the spokeswoman said.

And at 9:54 p.m. another man was found shot to death near his Pennsylvania Street home.

Arien Barber, 23, of the 700 block of Pennsylvania Street was pronounced dead a few doors down from his home, according to a spokeswoman for the Lake County coroner's office.

Barber suffered multiple gunshot wounds in an apparent homicide, the spokeswoman said.

Gary police were not available for comment on any of the homicides early Friday morning.

The shooting deaths follow a rash of violence in September when three men were shot to death within blocks of each other within 24 hours.
