SCHERERVILLE | A number of area school boards were recognized for superior effort Monday at a regional meeting of the Indiana School Boards Association.
The association recognized boards and individual members for their voluntary participation in school board training activities in 2007-2008.
The boards of Munster, Lake Ridge and Lake Station schools were named Exemplary boards, the highest classification. Exemplary boards have achieved Master board status two years in a row and have completed annual self-evaluations and other criteria.
Porter Township, East Porter and River Forest school boards were recognized as Master boards. The designation indicates that the board has completed a board self-assessment and that all members of the board have achieved the first level of distinction by accumulating points for various ISBA or ISBA recognized activities.
Fourteen area boards achieved the Outstanding category, indicating that a majority of board members have earned a minimum of the first level of distinction.
