SAUK VILLAGE | The village will hold a public hearing to present its 2010 budget at 6 tonight at the Municipal Center, 21801 Torrence Ave. The public is encouraged to attend.
During the hearing, details of the proposed $31.7 million budget will be discussed. The village budget for 2009 was $25.4 million. According to Finance Director Beverly Sterrett, the budget increase is due, in part, to bond issuance for payments to developers within the tax increment financing districts in the village.
"This is the first budget of my administration, and even in the face of these tough economic times, my primary objective has been to ensure the quality of village services for our residents," Village President Lewis Towers said.
"The key highlights of the proposed 2010 budget are that there will be no layoffs of personnel, a reduction of the village deficit, and maintenance of village services."
Among officials slated to join Towers are village board trustees, Sterrett and finance consultant David Gonzalez.
The public may review a hard copy of the proposed 2010 budget at the Municipal Center and at the Nancy L. McConathy Library, 21737 Jeffrey Ave.
A village ordinance requires the budget be approved by the board by July 28.
