DESIGN A T-SHIRT | Lake County
Lake County Soil & Water Conservation District is sponsoring its annual T-shirt design contest open to all students attending high school in Lake County. Cash awards will be presented as follows: $100 for first, $75 for second, $50 for third and $25 for fourth. This year�s topic is "Water is Life,"�and the design should emphasize the importance of water. The T-shirt featuring the winning design will become a third-place prize for this years� annual poster contest, 4-H Soil and Water Conservation project contestants and students competing the public speaking contest. The entry deadline is March 30. Application packets are available by phone or at the office, 928 S. Court St.

GOVERNMENT SERVICE | Munster
Devon Bradley, of Gary, spent the day as a page for Sen. Jean Breaux at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. Pages assist senators and Senate staff members with a variety of legislative duties and learn about Indiana's government. Bradley, the son of Ericka Lewis, of Gary, is a sixth-grader at Emerson School for Visual and Performing Arts in Gary. The program is open to youths in sixth grade and older.
CENTER FOR POSSIBILITIES | Hobart
Center for Possibilities is accepting applications for enrollment in the preschool program for children 2 to 5 years old with developmental disabilities. The mission of the Center for Possibilities at Cerebral Palsy of NWI is to improve the quality of life for young children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.�Children with moderate to severe disabilities (not limited to cerebral palsy) are strong encouraged to apply.�Each student enrolled in the program receives physical, occupational and speech therapy to develop skills to function to the best of his or her ability in gross motor, fine motor and communication skills. The preschool program operates from 8:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. A hot nutritious lunch and snacks are provided. Limited spots are available and are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Center for Possibilities is a not-for-profit center licensed by the state and has operated for more than 45 years. It's at 22 Tyler Ave.

TUTORING SERVICES | Gary
African American Achievers Youth Corps offers tutorial services for young males in sixth to 12th grade from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays in the library at Indiana University Northwest, 3400 Broadway. African American Achievers Youth Corps is composed of more than 200 middle and high school boys who meet at 1 p.m. Saturdays in Hawthorn 219 at IUN. The group participates in black empowerment workshops and sports activities weekly. Once per month, members are provided a free excursion to reward them for attending weekly workshops. Teachers interested in referring male students or parents interested in enrolling their sons should contact Vernon Smith.
