SCHERERVILLE | An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday on the body of a man who was found dead Tuesday afternoon in a Schererville drainage ditch.

Representatives from the Schererville police, Lake County coroner's office, Lake County crime lab and Schererville fire department converged on Central Avenue Ditch, off Winston Court near Kennedy Avenue, shortly before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Scott Norwine, who works at a nearby business, said he was walking to get something out of his pickup truck before lunch and saw what he thought was a body, face down in the ditch.

Norwine said he called over two co-workers to get their opinion, and after they determined it could be a body they called police.

Firefighters helped remove the body from the ditch.

The cause of death is unknown, as is the man's identity.
