MERRILLVILLE | The man who stole U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky's wallet Friday night in a strong-arm robbery remained at large Monday.

The man who escaped with $10 and credit cards - which were canceled - was not arrested by Monday afternoon, said Merrillville police Operations Cmdr. Lance Huish.

Visclosky, 58, was walking his groceries to his car about 9 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of the WiseWay store at 9111 Taft St. when a man approached him from behind and demanded his wallet and keys, police said. Visclosky's keys were found later in the lot.

Although the robber displayed no weapon, Visclosky reacted correctly, Huish said.

"Don't take chances," he said.
