PORTER | All advisories have been lifted and the seven Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore beaches are open to swimmers this weekend.

Officials closed Porter Beach on Wednesday, after a weekly test found abnormally high E.coli bacteria levels in a water sample. A follow-up test conducted Thursday found levels within the limits allowed for swimming, according to a report released Friday morning.

High levels of the E.coli bacteria can indicate the presence of other pathogens that can cause serious illness.

The seven beaches should remain open throughout the weekend, barring a major rain event, at which time additional tests may be performed to determine swimmers' safety.
