CROWN POINT | The Lake County Council votes Tuesday afternoon to pass a 1 percent local option income tax on second and final reading.
The tax would raise approximately $78 million. The current wording of the ordinance would return about three quarters of that money to homeowners in the form of property tax reductions and the remainder to landlords of rental properties of four living units or smaller.
The Board of Commissioners are expected to veto the tax when they meet Wednesday morning. The Council has scheduled a veto override vote for Dec. 27.
