CROWN POINT | The Police Department is accepting applications for its 10-week citizen's police academy.

The academy is intended to educate Crown Point residents or employees on different facets of the Police Department, including patrol procedures, criminal investigations and canine operations.

Classes are scheduled from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. every Wednesday starting Oct. 17.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and must live or work in the city of Crown Point. Classes are limited to 20 students. Participants in the academy will graduate on the 11th and final week of the course.

To apply, bring a state-issued identification card or driver's license to the Crown Point Police Department at 124 N. East St. between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and pick up an application. The deadline to enroll is Sept. 28. Applicants will be notified by mail on their acceptance into the program.
